Going abroad to study is a unique opportunity and a maturing experience for young people. However, such an experience can, at times, be daunting, for all concerned and we want to assure you that Waterford Academy of Education is here to take any uncertainty and concern away and to ensure that your son or daughter, whom you have entrusted to us, will have a successful, safe and happy experience. As parents ourselves we understand your concerns and we will do everything possible to support your teenager as they settle into the new environment.
To put your mind at ease, we will arrange for your son or daughter to be met at the airport and safely transferred to Waterford and their accommodation. The accommodation we arrange is very safe and well supervised. Shortly after arrival, students will have an initial orientation session in order to introduce them to our rules for their safety and to help them cope with the transition into Irish life and culture.
Throughout their programme, students will have daily access to computers. This will allow them to use e-mail and to prepare an illustrated blog recording their experiences and achievements. These blogs can be viewed by family members at home and are a very useful means of maintaining regular contact, without too much intrusion.
We, as Directors of the Academy, have daily contact with the Group Leaders and Teachers. They will alert us to any issues and we will help sort them out and, if necessary, we will contact you.
We assure you of our personal concern for the welfare of your son or daughter and our desire that their experience here with us in Waterford, will be the best we can make it.
Dr Venie Martin
Mr Ken McCormick.
